Adult Basic Education
Lakes Area Adult Education Consortium provides services to help adults as lifelong learners achieve full economic and social participation in their communities. DLABE provides GED, ESL, literacy, math, college and career preparation, and more to adult students in the following school districts: Detroit Lakes, Lake Park-Audubon, Ulen-Hitterdal, Norman County East, Ada-Borup, and Rothsay. We also serve learners incarcerated in the Becker County Jail.
Adult Education classes are FREE to Eligible Students
17 or older
Not currently enrolled in a public K-12 school program
Demonstrated need for ABE services to successfully participate in secondary education, post-secondary education, or career pathways

Some test fees do apply to all students, as noted in course listings
Adult Education addresses a variety of learner goals. LAAE helps learners to:
Attain employment and/or better their current employment;
Achieve high school equivalency (GED or Adult High School Diploma);
Attain skills necessary to enter post-secondary education and training;
Exit public welfare and become self-sufficient;
Learn to speak and write the English language;
Master basic academic skills to help their children succeed in school;
Become U.S. citizens and participate in a democratic society; and
Gain confidence and a sense of personal and civic responsibility.
Volunteers are always needed and welcome! Please consider donating your time and talent for tutoring, mentoring, classroom support, or office work!
